Software Project Management Using RedMine Presented On FOSS Ka Kura
It was quite a while since the last FOSS Ka Kura on PostgRE SQl happened. Better late than never. Another session of FOSS Ka Kura was conducted by FOSS Nepal Community in February 6, 2010.
It was the first FKK of the year 2010, thanks to the support of every FOSS enthusiast. This time, the topic of the session was Software Project Management using RedMine. Mr. Ritesh Man Tamrakar, one of the pioneers of FOSS in Nepal and a professional in project management from DASS Pvt. Ltd, elucidated the audience with his marvelous presentation followed by demonstration. As always, this program also attracted quite a lot number of students and ICT professionals. Guidinance For SFD
This time, the sixth Software Freedom Day (SFD) celebration organized by Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Nepal Community in association with various ICT stakeholders in Nepal on September 19, 2009 (ie Ashwin 3, 2066: Saturday).
FOSS Nepal Community, which is a team of those enthusiastic people who believe in the usage of Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) has been organizing the SFD celebration since 2005 in Nepal. This year, various programs are being organized in Chitwan, Dharan and Biratnagar along with Kathmandu to raise awareness about the software freedom with the theme "FOSS for Enterprise". In Kathmandu, the D-Day event is being organized on September 19, 2009 at Yala Maya Kendera, Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur. It is expected that this will be enjoyable platform for technical and non-technical enthusiast to know, learn and experiment with FOSS and celebrate the freedom provided by it.
This year's SFD is being organized in association with High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT), Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), Nepal Information Technology Centre (NITC), Prime Sponsored by D2HawkeyServices and supported by Kathmandu University (KU), Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya (MPP), Prime College, Open Learning Exchange (OLE) Nepal, World Link, Janaki Technology, and many other ICT stakeholders and FOSS contributors from Nepal and worldwide are supporting and participating in this celebration in all possible ways.
With this year's theme being "FOSS for Enterprise", Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI), an umbrella organization of the Nepalese private sector, is also on board as our Celebrating Partner.

The FOSS Nepal Community has been declared one of the three global winners for the second consecutive year in the Software Freedom Day 2008 Best Event Competition. The other winners are SFD Nicaragua and DabaweGnu. The announcement was made on the SFD website by Software Freedom International, who coordinates the SFD celebration worldwide.
Software Freedom movement is a philosophical and social movement which values freedom, collaboration, community and transparency. It benefits the public good and ensures basic human freedoms are strengthened by technology, not hampered. Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual grass roots effort to educate the public on the virtues of Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) and also to encourage its use, to the benefit of the public. SFD is marked on the third Saturday of every September. The 2008 event took place on September 20 and was celebrated by over 500 teams in over 120 countries all around the world, all taking software freedom to the masses! In Nepal, the celebration was organized by FOSS Nepal Community for the fourth successive year with the theme "Create, Share, Collaborate”. Over 1000 people had attended with an organizing team of more than 40 volunteers.

FOSS Nepal Community is a team of volunteers who believe in the usage of FOSS. The primary objective of the community is to promote and diversify the usage of FOSS in Nepal. The community has been organizing a series of awareness programs, orientations, talk programs, discussion programs, install-fests, initiating local communities in colleges, etc. for the past four years.
